Circled in red are the names of "Catherine Drake" and her five year old daughter, "Lucinda Drake." The descendants of Catherine and Lucinda (later known as Lucy Abbott) had often suspicioned that Lucy Abbott was born out of wedlock. Her mother, Catherine, was a widow of Benjamin Drake when Lucy was born in Dallas County, TX in 1865. Catherine had always said that she was married at the time to a Civil War soldier by the name of Aarron Epihorn Abbott and that he died of small pox while held as a southern soldier prisoner-of-war by the north. This 1870 US Census clearly shows that Lucy was given the surname of her first husband (Drake) which Catherine was also using until later when she married a Mr. McFarland.
